"I got hepatitis when I was twenty-one and it destroyed my liver. I ended up having a liver transplant. Over the years, I allowed myself to develop some pretty lame habits. I would often go all day without eating, didn't feel like exercising; and didn't really like fruit or vegetables."
This is a common complaint among our overweight corporate clients--particularly those whose sedentary business work keeps them sitting in front of a computer for long hours. Jerry realized his poor eating and exercise habits were not only keeping him from losing weight, they could be causing severe problems with his liver and blood lipids, particularly cholesterol. "I was tired of being heavy and tired of people saying stuff to me. It’s a mental thing…how you look at yourself. What you look like is how you feel and I didn’t feel good about either.”
Jerry signed up for one of our corporate classes, knowing that he was ready to rework his lifestyle. In fact, during his first week he added bananas and other fruit to his diet and lost 10 pounds by the end of week three. We knew this guy was determined and ready to change. And change he did. By the end of the six-week corporate seminar series, he had added a few more fruits and tomatoes to his diet, he took the stairs instead of the elevator, and he was rarely seen at work without a bottle of water in his hands. Six months later, Jerry had dropped a total of 50 pounds on the Phenotype C Diet.
But it didn’t stop there. It’s been over five years and Jerry is still following the diet. He’s taken 100 pounds off, and, more importantly, he’s kept it off. “I stay between 150-160 and I walk a lot - between twenty minutes and two hours at a time - and I bike three times a week. Now I eat all kinds of fruit…mostly mixed fruit prepared in the store with pears, apples, oranges, melons and pineapple. I also eat cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and sometimes peas.”
Jerry explained how he had overcome setbacks and how the Phenotype C Diet had changed his life. “Since I have lost the weight, people treat me differently. The advice I would give is to do it for yourself and no one else. You really have to want it. There will be setbacks but keep the faith in yourself and you can do it. People will say you can’t, but don’t listen. Believe in yourself and you can do it. Start slowly and enjoy the process. If you try to rush it you will get burned out. There ‘s no quick fix but give one hundred percent for only three weeks and you will feel better about yourself and feel better physically. Make sure you try some exercise after meals, like walking or biking around the block or playing with kids. Now that I have lost the weight, I feel better and can do more. It’s changed my outlook on life and people.”
